How to Organize PDF Pages: Delete, Extract, and Split

A practical guide to cleaning up a PDF by removing, extracting, and separating pages.

Updated July 24, 2026

Clean up a PDF the simple way

Most PDF clean-up comes down to three actions: removing pages you do not want, keeping only the pages you need, and separating one file into parts. Knowing which to use saves time.

Delete pages

Use delete pages when a document is mostly right but has a few pages to remove — a cover sheet, a blank page, or a private note. You list the pages to remove and keep the rest.

Extract pages

Use extract pages when you only need a small part of a long PDF — one invoice, a single chapter, or a signature page. You list the pages to keep.

Split a PDF

Use split when you want to break a PDF into separate files, or hand different sections to different people.

Finish cleanly

After organising, open the result to confirm the pages and order, then add page numbers last so the numbering matches the final document.
